St Paul, MN – Today is the first committee deadline for policy bills in the Minnesota House of Representatives. A bill authored by Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) to make legislators subject to DWI offenses during the Legislative Session has failed to meet that deadline. Rep. Winkler released the following statement.
“This bill was proposed by students as part of a project that encourages young people to get involved in the law making process. It has broad bipartisan support in the Legislature and I will continue to push it forward this session. Not only because these students have worked hard to ensure that it passes, but also because it addresses an outdated and unnecessary provision in our states constitution. No elected official is above the law.”
