House Living Wage Jobs Committee Requests Ideas, Information from Workers, Businesses and Organizations

Thursday, January 17, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — Today State Representative Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) sent a letter to hundreds of Minnesota workers, labor unions, non-profits and businesses seeking information on how to increase wages and expand economic security for Minnesota workers.

The mission of the committee is to investigate, research, report, and propose legislation to raise the wages of workers throughout Minnesota. Rep. Winkler has said he plans to hold hearings at the legislature and in other regions of the state to gather ideas and input from workers, the business community, economist, and policy experts.

“Changes in the job market over the last two decades have left hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans in low-wage jobs with few benefits and little job security,” said Rep. Winkler. “We need an agenda to make hard work pay for all Minnesotans. This is the first stage: to get as much information and hear from as many voices as possible. Getting input and ideas from Minnesotans and Minnesota workers, organizations and businesses is essential and will shape the reports and proposals that come from this committee.”

The letter includes a short work sheet and asks organizations if they would be interested in co-hosting a hearing over the next year. The full letter can be found here.
