St. Paul, Minnesota — Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler released the following statements on the Senate Republican tax proposal:
“The Senate Republican tax proposal is not fiscally responsible and will undermine our ability to provide good schools, good roads, and good health care for Minnesotans,” said Speaker Hortman. “There is only a ‘surplus’ in the true sense of the word if Minnesotans believe that last year’s budget compromise fully funded Minnesota’s needs. Last year’s budget under-invested in education, health care, and families’ economic security. DFLers propose we invest in Minnesotans before enacting tax cuts that disproportionately impact higher-income Minnesotans.”
“Senate Republicans are back to their tired destructive budgeting ways, playing election-year politics and shortchanging Minnesota’s future,” said Majority Leader Winkler. “Instead of their irresponsible tax promises, we should ensure any investments we make keep our budget stable and invest in all Minnesotans.”
