Masin cautions against untested reforms
Saint Paul, Minn. – Shortly after the Minnesota House of Representatives voted to send the health insurance premium relief bill to Gov. Dayton’s desk, Rep. Sandra Masin (DFL – Eagan) released the following statement:
“Getting quick relief to Minnesotans struggling with the health insurance premium increases in the individual market was one of my highest priorities upon entering office this term. Gov. Dayton’s plan was the right plan for Minnesota because it separated relief and reforms and was originally released in October.
It is hard for me to understand why House Republicans were comfortable standing by for months, watching people struggle to obtain adequate health insurance; especially if they had health issues. We could have done relief first, like Minnesotans wanted, and then analyzed the reforms my Republican colleagues were pursuing. Instead, they held back relief until we agreed to their untested reforms; reforms that could further destabilize a volatile market.”
