I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Below are a couple of friendly reminders of some great opportunities you can consider. I’ve also provided a brief update on a proposal that will give support to our local small businesses in Minnesota.
Filing for your Property Tax or Homestead Credit Refund
It’s that time of the year again. If you haven’t already, please remember to file for your Renter’s Property Tax or Homestead Credit Refund. To see if you qualify, please take a look at the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s Instruction Guide. You are able to access the forms here. The filing deadline is August 15, 2016.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue also has online resources available on free filing. If
you want to file yourself and are curious to see if you qualify for free electronic filing products, or you want assistance from a free tax preparation site, visit this site. If you have questions, feel free to contact the Department directly at 651-296-3781 or via email at individual.incometax@state.mn.us.
Additionally, the IRS has free filing information available on their website. On the homepage of their website under the banner “Hot Topics” you will see a link entitled “Get Free Tax Preparation Help” or “Free File Tax Software”.
Burnsville City Council Seeks Applicants for Advisory Commissions
The City of Burnsville is now accepting applications from Burnsville residents interested in serving in local government. The following commissions have vacancies: Economic Development; Ames Center Advisory; Planning; and Parks and Natural Resources. You can find more information on the commission’s duties here. All terms begin July 1, 2016 and applicants must be at least 18 years of age. The deadline to apply is May 2, 2016.
Next Generation Main Street Act Update
My bill, HF 3388 was heard last week in the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Committee. The bill is included in small business proposal, the “Next Generation Main Street Act” and will make the Bureau of Small Business more accessible and expand services. I’m pleased that the bill is moving forward and gaining traction in the House.
