Rep. Rick Hansen Welcomes House Capital Investment Committee to South St. Paul, Advocates for Funding for Local Projects

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Yesterday, Representative Rick Hansen (DFL– South St. Paul) hosted the House Capital Investment Committee in South St. Paul during their 2023 Bonding Tour. Rep. Hansen has been a member of the Capital Investment Committee since 2015.

The committee is touring sites for proposed capital investment throughout the state and toured the South St. Paul Public Works Facility. They also heard presentations on proposed funding for North and South Newport Infrastructure improvements as well as the City of Inver Grove Heights proposal to address elevated radium levels in city water reported earlier this year.

Representative Rick Hansen released the following statement following the Capital Investment Committee’s visit:

“As a longtime member of the Capital Investment Committee, I have always advocated for projects that will strengthen our communities and protect our constituents. Infrastructure projects like these are critical in ensuring our water is safe, clean, and drinkable now and into the future.

“Last session, I was proud to secure billions of dollars in local investments for road and other infrastructure projects desperately needed for our communities. Next session I am looking forward to continuing that progress by working with our partners at the local level.”

In 2023, Representative Hansen secured $7 million for the City of St. Paul Park for the 3rd Street Collector Railway, and $2 million for the City of Inver Grove Heights for the Heritage Village Park. The bill also included $72 million to support Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) including the G Line which will serve the communities of South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, and West St. Paul, $12 million for Inflow and Infiltration, and $8.4 million for Community Tree Planting grants to restore trees devastated by Emerald Ash Borer. These provisions passed as part of that year’s bipartisan capital investment bill.
