Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Dear Neighbors,

I would like to thank everyone who helped make the Oak Hill Veterans memorial Rededication a success. It was a moving event and an important reminder of the need and importance to honor those who serve our nation.

High School Page Program

The start of the legislative session is around the corner and now is the time for high school juniors to apply for the High School Page Program. Students have the unique opportunity to learn firsthand about various aspects of the state legislature. The weeklong program allows participants to get a front row seat to the legislative process and get involved in policy and public service. You can learn about the application process and more here. The application deadline is this Friday November 18.

Important Budget Information

Minnesota’s economy continues to hum, with the most recent revenue for October being $126 above what was previously anticipated. Revenue for the first three months of fiscal year (FY) 2023 was $289 million above the forecasted amount. After the addition of the October variance, FY 2023 revenue is $415 million above the forecasted amount for the first four months. This is important information as we head into the 2023 session

End of Year Agriculture Reports

At the end of the year legislators receive several reports on various issue areas. Here are some reports as related to agriculture and animal health:

  • Project report: Environmental Assessment of Chronic Wasting Disease. This report details the worrying spread of CWD and specifically the deer carcasses with CWD found in Beltrami County. Read the report to find full results and recommendations
  • Rural Finance Authority Lending Projection. The RFA administers thirteen loan programs to provide affordable credit to eligible farmers. Specifically focussing on new farmers who may have a hard time breaking into the business. This report provides background information in regards to the RFA current loan issuance and a projection of when the funds will be exhausted.
  • Board of Animal Health annual report. This is a detailed report on the status of Minnesota's various domestic animal populations. There is a lot of pertinent information spanning from dogs, to pigs, to farmed deer and more.
  • 2022 Interagency Agreements and Transfers Report. This is a report required by statute which details the agreements and fund transfers state agencies have with one another.
