Tuesday, January 4, 2022

Dear neighbors,

I hope 2022 is treating you well! Here’s a brief update from the Capitol:

Minnesotans Can Now Request Social Security Cards Online

Thanks to bipartisan legislation I championed last session, Minnesotans can now order replacement Social Security cards online! Before this bill was signed into law, people had to visit a Social Security field office or apply by mail. Moving the process online will make it easier and more convenient for Social Security recipients to replace a lost card. You can read more about this change in an article KARE 11 published recently.

If you ever need to replace your Social Security card, you can visit socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and follow the steps outline below.

Update on Redistricting

A five-judge panel appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court has concluded a months-long series of public hearings. After hearing from Minnesotans across the state, this special redistricting panel listened to arguments from representatives of several groups and communities today. The panel is preparing to be called on if they’re needed to create new congressional and legislative maps. MinnPost published an article about this panel and today’s hearing yesterday.

New Leadership Position

I recently learned that I was nominated to serve as co-chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Agriculture Task Force! I accepted the nomination this afternoon. I’m looking forward to starting this exciting new position.

If you have any questions about the work I’m doing or if I can be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can email me at rep.rick.hansen@house.mn or call (651) 296-6828.
