Statement: Rep. Rick Hansen calls on Candidate Denny McNamara to resign from public position, Daudt to remove him

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN — Today, State Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL – South Saint Paul) is calling on candidate Denny McNamara to resign his position on the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council. McNamara, appointed by Speaker Kurt Daudt, serves as a public citizen member on a council that recommends the spending of hundreds of million in constitutionally dedicated funds.

Rep. Rick Hansen released the following statement:

“Candidate Denny McNamara needs to resign his special public citizen position on the council today. Now that he is officially running as a candidate for the Senate, he can no longer serve the role as a House citizen member. In fact, that he’s having big dollar fundraisers hosted by lobbyists for not just his campaign, but that of the Senate Republicans demonstrates he’s no longer fit to serve in a position that demands the highest public trust. When hundreds of millions of public funds are at stake and there’s a dumpster of undisclosed fundraising dollars floating around, the opportunity for an appearance of conflict is simply too great. Candidate McNamara either needs to resign from the council or Speaker Daudt needs to remove him as the House appointee.”
