Rep. Liebling: Medicaid Expansion Good for Minnesotans and State Budget

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

SAINT PAUL, MN— Today, Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL-Rochester) attended the signing ceremony for legislation she co-authored that expands Medicaid coverage for thousands of Minnesotans.

Rep. Liebling, who chairs the Health and Human Services Policy Committee, issued the following statement on the signing of the Medicaid expansion legislation:

“I commend my colleagues for moving this bill quickly through the legislative process and Governor Dayton for signing it. Expanding Medicaid will provide health care coverage for an additional 40,000 low-income Minnesotans.

“The expansion will come at little expense to Minnesota. The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that Medicaid expansion will save the state more than $1 billion by 2015. The federal government will pay 100 percent of the costs until 2016, phasing down to 90 percent after 2020.

“Ensuring that all Minnesotans have insurance coverage will help our state remain one of the healthiest and most productive in the United States. I am proud to have worked on this important legislation.”
