Melissa Hortman of Brooklyn Park was officially sworn in to her first term as State Representative for District 47B as the 84th Legislative Session convened at the State Capitol on January 4, 2005. Hortman, an attorney and executive in her family's auto parts business, renewed her commitment to working with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move Minnesota forward.
"I have heard from countless citizens of District 47B that they have had enough of the partisan deadlock," said Hortman. "I would like to extend my sincere thanks again to the voters who believed in my commitment to changing the tone. I will work hard to do the job that I have been sent here to do for my neighbors and the state as a whole."
Hortman said that her first priority is to see that funding for Northstar Commuter Rail is approved.
"It is time to make common-sense investments in transportation and transit to address our current and future transportation challenges," said Hortman. "We should be making these investments now, otherwise the cost to our economy and taxpayers will simply continue to skyrocket."
Hortman is pleased to be serving on the Transportation and Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committees but encourages the citizens of District 47B to contact her with any issues they would like to see addressed.
"Citizen involvement is key to our communities' voice being heard at the State Capitol," said Hortman. "Please don't hesitate to contact me regarding any issue of State Government."
