Minnesota House of Representatives officially sworn in

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

St. Paul, Minnesota — The 91st Minnesota Legislature was officially sworn in today, with DFLers taking control of the Minnesota House of Representatives with a 75-59 majority. Representative Melissa Hortman (DFL - Brooklyn Park) was elected Speaker of the House.

“It is our job to govern together as a team — it’s time to take off the red jerseys and blue jerseys of the campaign season and govern together as Team Minnesota,” said Speaker Hortman. “We share a trust — to recognize that those who came before us built a phenomenally successful state. It’s our obligation to keep Minnesota strong for the generations who will follow us.”

“The new House DFL majority is more diverse and better reflects what Minnesota looks like. This majority is ready to deliver for our working families and invest in a better future for all Minnesotans,” said Majority Leader Ryan Winkler (DFL - Golden Valley). “We’re excited to work with Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan on our shared vision for One Minnesota.”

House DFLers will introduce their first ten bills on Wednesday.
