RELEASE: Leader Hortman Statement on Special Session Failure

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

SAINT PAUL –Today, Minnesota Republicans failed to complete the special legislative session they agreed to, with several bills not even through the technical drafting process before the 7:00am agreed upon deadline.

House DFL Leader Melissa Hortman released the following statement:

“Republicans have now failed to pass a final budget in both the regular legislative session and in the self-imposed 12:01 am special session Kurt Daudt asked for. Minnesotans would be better served by leaders who could get the job done for everyone.

“Further, the Republican budget includes divisive policy that will hurt working families, instead of investing in the areas that will improve the economic lives of Minnesotans. Republicans are forcing this last ditch effort through and continuing to stifle voices of dissent, despite the fact they have failed to meet their own basic commitments.

"Minnesotans deserve better .”
