RELEASE: Rep. Pat Garofalo Invites Danish Prime Minister, Danish Government Officials to Minnesota

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

St. Paul, MN- State Representative Patrick Garofalo, R-Farmington, today announced that he is formally inviting Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, her cabinet and members of the Folketing (Danish Parliament) to visit Minnesota and meet with private and public sector leaders. The invitation is an effort to reaffirm Minnesota and Denmark’s friendship and to build relationships for future exchanges of culture and commerce.

“Denmark and Minnesota have a deep historical and cultural bond thanks to the tens of thousands of Danish Americans that call Minnesota home,” said Rep. Garofalo. “As governments that share common goals of promoting free trade, protecting individual liberties and a steadfast commitment to democratic ideals, it is important that we continue to strengthen our close relationship. I am confident that Minnesota's vibrant business community and political leaders would enthusiastically embrace a positive response from the leaders of Denmark."

This week, President Trump abruptly canceled a state visit to Denmark following the Danish government’s unwillingness to sell Greenland to the United States.

“While I am not authorized to speak on behalf of Minnesota’s government, I am confident that the Danish delegation would be the beneficiaries of the goodwill and warm hospitality of all Minnesotans. I urge the Danish government to accept this invitation to reinforce the strong bond between our two governments.”
