The Urdahl family wishes you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please be safe as you travel the road to 2012.
On a related travel note, I want to pass along some information from the Minneapolis Passport Agency regarding wallet-sized passports now available to people who travel by land or by sea to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. These cards are NOT valid for international air travel. Minnesotans could find this to be a convenient, considerably less expensive alternative to passport books if they drive north of the border for fishing or hunting excursions.
Citizens also are encouraged to participate in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, which provides current international information, including travel warnings and travel alerts. You only need to sign up once and then you can add and delete trips from your account to reflect your current travel plans.
Call 1-877-487-2778 or log on to www.travel.state.gov for more information on STEP, as well as passports. The Minneapolis Passport Agency is in the "old" Federal Building, less than a mile northwest of the Metrodome, at 212 3rd Ave. S. You can now get a passport book or card issued on-site within three days through expedited service.
