ST. PAUL – The Minnesota DNR has signed an agreement to purchase an additional 119 acres at the Greenleaf State Recreation Area site south of Litchfield.
This land acquisition is the third at Greenleaf SRA. It is important to site development because it connects two existing Greenleaf SRA parcels, giving the fledgling park nearly 400 contiguous acres. Per protocol, the Meeker County Board has been notified of this pending sale and now other technicalities of the transaction will take place.
“This purchase really allows us to move forward with development of a trail system and other features of the park,” said Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township. “The plan all along was to assemble the park in a series of three purchases. While other beneficial parcels may be considered down the road, no other acquisitions seem imminent.”
The purchase from landowner Mark Geyer is expected to be completed within the next two months. Planning and development of existing park land will continue in the meantime.
Dean Urdahl represents District 18B in the Minnesota House of Representatives. The district includes most of Meeker County and a portion of Wright County. This is Urdahl’s fifth term in the Legislature after being elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
