ST. PAUL – The second phase of the land-acquisition process at Greenleaf Lake State Recreation Area south of Litchfield recently was completed.
The latest deal involved 156 acres being transferred from the Parks and Trails Council to the DNR, giving GLSRA a contiguous 264 acres on the west side of the fledgling park. Plans for the DNR to acquire additional adjacent land – potentially bringing the park to 1,200 acres upon completion – remain in the works.
State Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, and Sen. Steve Dille, R-Dassel, carried legislation to form the recreation area and funding was granted in 2005. The first GSRA land purchase took place in December, 2007.
“The goal was to complete the land acquisition over a 10-year period,” Urdahl said. “This is another step in the process and we are still on schedule with the project.”
Dean Urdahl represents District 18B in the Minnesota House of Representatives. The district includes most of Meeker County and a portion of Wright County. This is Urdahl’s fourth term in the Legislature after being elected in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008.
