Here is information regarding a couple of opportunities for you to participate in local discussions about the state budget, our economy and other important issues we face.
First, I will be hosting a series of town hall meetings in District 18B. It's an informal opportunity open to anyone and there's no need to RSVP. All town hall meetings start at 9 a.m. Here are the dates we’ve set so far:
Saturday, Feb. 21
Howard Lake Drug (732 6th St., Howard Lake)
Saturday, Feb. 28
Homestyle Country Café (95 Elm St. E., Annandale)
Saturday, March 7
Main Street Café (226 Sibley Ave. N., Litchfield)
Also, the Legislature is organizing more than 20 “listening sessions” throughout Minnesota the next couple of weeks. The ones most convenient to our district are in St. Cloud and Willmar.
The listening sessions will be opportunities for you to comment on Gov. Pawlenty’s budget proposal. The Legislature will respond with ideas of its own and that’s where your input will be helpful as we work to stabilize ourselves economically. I'll be participating in the Willmar event with a number of other area legislators and look forward to hearing your thoughts regarding the economy.
If you're interested, here’s a link to some details about the governor's budget proposal: http://www.governor.state.mn.us/mediacenter/pressreleases/PROD009342.html
If you want to speak at the listening session, it's best to register in advance at: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/budgettownhallmeetings.asp.
The Willmar and St. Cloud events both are at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Here are the details:
St. Cloud City Hall Council Chambers, 400-2nd St. S.
Kennedy Elementary School, 824 7th Street SW
I hope you are able to make it to some of these events.
