Holiday greetings; new laws set to take effect

Wednesday, December 23, 2015

Dear Neighbor,

The Urdahl family wishes you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

One quick legislative item I would like to pass along is some new state laws take effect on Jan. 1, including one which requires drivers to provide proof of insurance when renewing license tabs.

Citizens, when applying for motor vehicle or motorcycle registration or transfer of ownership, must now provide the insurance company’s name, the policy number and the policy expiration date.

The change in law is an attempt to reduce the number of uninsured motorists on Minnesota's roadways. It reinstates a statute which formerly was in place. Reports show approximately 10 percent of Minnesota's drivers do not carry auto insurance, which ultimately results in higher premiums for those who do. This is another checkpoint to make sure drivers are adhering to the law. Here is a link to more about this new law and others.

Stay tuned for more legislative news as we enter 2016 and prepare for the next session to begin in March. Until then, have a great holiday season.

Sincerely,

Dean
