City of Saint Paul seeking applicants for
2015 Neighborhood STAR Program

Over $1.6 million in loans and grants available for capital improvement projects

SAINT PAUL-The City of Saint Paul’s Neighborhood Sales Tax Revitalization (STAR) Program is seeking applicants for the 2015 loan and grant funding competitive application cycle. Over $1.6 million will be available in loans and grants for eligible projects including capital (bricks and mortar) improvement projects in Saint Paul neighborhoods that further economic, commercial or residential development.

“The STAR program is an investment to strengthen neighborhoods across the city,” said Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman. “I encourage all qualified nonprofit, for-profit or public entities to apply for this program to help foster economic development and vitality in our city.”

“Saint Paul is seeking partners to build the future,” added City Council President Kathy Lantry. “We are looking for proposals that capitalize on the great things that are happening in our neighborhoods and that help us move the ball forward.”

She cited as an example the successful STAR Application submitted by the Dayton’s Bluff Community Council and the Latino Economic Development Center which has led to the development of the new Eastside Enterprise Center, the Make it Happen on East 7th Campaign, and has helped jump start small business development in the Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood.

An informational workshop about the Neighborhood STAR Program and application process will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Wellstone Center, 179 E. Robie Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55107.

Program guidelines and applications will be available at the workshop, and afterwards by calling 651-266-STAR or online at www.stpaul.gov/star.

Applicants can request a minimum of $5,000 in assistance and the funding must be matched dollar-for-dollar with private resources. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Proposals can be mailed to the City of Saint Paul, Planning and Economic Development, 25 West Fourth Street, Suite 1400, Saint Paul, MN 55102. After a complete review, funding decisions will be announced in July 2015.
