REP. GUNTHER NAMED CHAIRMAN OF HOUSE LEGACY FUNDING FINANCE COMMITTEE

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

ST. PAUL – Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Daudt has appointed State Representative Bob Gunther (R-Fairmont) as Chairman of the Minnesota House Legacy Funding Finance Committee.

The committee is responsible for allocating sales-tax revenue generated by Minnesota’s Legacy Amendment.

“I’m pleased with the appointment to lead this committee and look forward to helping supplement funding for relevant statewide programs,” Gunther said.

Gunther said the committee is a product of the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, which Minnesotans passed into law via the 2008 general election ballot. It raised the state sales tax by three-eighths of 1 percent and diverts that portion to support Minnesota’s outdoors, environmental and cultural causes. The tax generates around $900 million biennially, and Gunther said he will focus on distributing Legacy Amendment funding in a fair and transparent manner.
