Legislative Update - April 8, 2020

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

Rep. Wagenius

Dear neighbors,

I hope you are doing as well as you possibly can during this pandemic. With distance learning starting this week, I know many Minneapolis and Richfield residents are working hard to balance the needs of multiple family members and adjust to a new normal. I know it has not been easy, but it is something we are all working through together.

Second Saturday Cancelled

My regular Second Saturday meeting will not take place this month due to the need for all of us to stay at home and physically apart. However, I encourage you to call or email me with questions, feedback, and suggestions. Your input is more important than ever.

Workers’ Compensation for First Responders and Health Care Workers

First responders and health care workers put themselves at risk to help keep Minnesotans safe and healthy. If these individuals contract COVID-19, we need to have their backs. Yesterday, legislators passed a bill to ensure that nurses, firefighters, EMTS, and others on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 are covered by workers’ compensation.

Helpful Resources

Last week, Governor Walz launched a new COVID-19 dashboard to track the spread of the virus and help Minnesotans find information and resources. The dashboard, which is updated daily, also includes information on available ventilators, ICU beds, personal protective equipment (PPE), and testing. You can view the dashboard here.

The Minnesota Department of Health’s website, linked here, is still an excellent source of accurate and up-to-date information.

Please continue to reach out if you need assistance. I can be reached by email at rep.jean.wagenius@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-4200.

Jean Wagenius
