Dear neighbors,

The 2020 legislative session began on February 11, and the House of Representatives is hard at work. Please keep in touch as the legislative session progresses, perhaps at my Second Saturday event this weekend.

Where: Mayflower Church, 100 E. Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN 55419

If you have any questions about Second Saturdays, please contact Zach at zach.zimmerman@house.mn.

Coronavirus Update

Minnesotans are rightly concerned about the spread of COVID-19, commonly referred to as the coronavirus. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) tells us that it is in constant contact with hospitals, clinicians, and local officials, and public health officials are working around the clock to prepare for and stop the spread of COVID-19. On Monday, the House passed a bill that provides additional funding for public health response efforts. Governor Walz signed in into law yesterday. I expect it is the first of many bills we will be passing.

Minnesotans should follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and MDH to prevent the spread of this disease:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue, not your hand.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Stay informed. Visit the MDH and CDC websites often.

MDH has set up a public hotline that will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The hotline number is 651-201-3920. You can also visit www.health.state.mn.us for up-to-date and accurate information.

Planting for Pollinators

It’s clear that Minnesotans are interested in taking action to protect pollinators. Nearly 6,000 homeowners applied for funding offered by the new Lawns to Legumes program, which helps people establish pollinator-friendly habitat in their yards. The second round of applications is now open. You can apply here until June 2.

Lawns to Legumes also provides free resources to help Minnesotans who want to begin pollinator planting projects. Click here to download a comprehensive Planting for Pollinators guide. Additional resources are available here.
