We were sworn into the House of Representatives three weeks ago. Here is an update on some of what I’ve been working on.
Committee Hearings Begin
I am the chair of the Energy and Climate Finance and Policy Division, a new committee and the first in our State’s history with climate in the title. We will be focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping Minnesota adapt to the changes that are already happening.
We had a standing room only crowd of Minnesotans at our first two hearings. They came to hear scientists from the University of Minnesota tell us about the current and future impacts of climate change in Minnesota. You may watch or listen to the proceedings and read the detailed slides and notes that the scientists prepared here. I encourage you to do so. The U faculty sent a powerful message to all of us.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency told us where Minnesota greenhouse gas emissions were coming from in our third hearing. You can see a good description in the bar chart prepared by our nonpartisan fiscal staff here.
I also serve on Environment and Natural Resources Finance, Environment and Natural Resources Policy, Legacy Finance, and Ways and Means. You can find a full hearing schedule and information on these committees and more here.
