Rep. Pelowski votes to replenish Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, deliver bonus pay to frontline workers

Monday, April 25, 2022

St. Paul, MN - Tonight, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved legislation to provide $1 billion for bonuses to frontline workers, appropriate $2.7 billion to replenish the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, and expand unemployment insurance eligibility to hourly school workers.

State Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL - Winona) served as the chief sponsor of the House bill, HF 3166, the companion bill to the legislation passed by the House this evening, SF 2677

“The bill we passed this evening delivers on the legislature’s responsibility to support our businesses and frontline workers,” said Rep. Pelowski. “The darkest days of the pandemic were deeply felt by our workforce and main street businesses, and it’s important we move forward in delivering support to them.”

The investment in frontline worker bonuses would deliver $1,500 to more than 600,000 frontline workers, including health care workers, first responders, child care providers, food service and retail workers, and more.
