I left Wadena on Friday grateful students were not in Wadena-Deer Creek High School when Thursday's storm ripped through town. I became even more appreciative of the fine people we have working our emergency response system.
Thursday's tornado could have resulted in even further disaster had either of those things been different.
I'm not sure you could ever fully prepare for something like this, but emergency officials seemed to be running as smooth a recovery operation as could be expected. Local fire and police stations combined their efforts with broader organizations like the Salvation Army and National Guard. One thing local workers stressed is that while they do need volunteers, "spectators" complicate their already difficult jobs. Please bear that in mind.
Let's keep the storm victims and residents who face a long road to recovery in our prayers.
