Update from the House

Thursday, December 20, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

With the holidays just around the corner, Joyce and I wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I hope you are able to spend extra time with loved ones as we celebrate. Also, if you’re traveling during the holidays, please be extra safe out on the roads.

The turning of the calendar also means the Jan. 8 start of the 2019 session is approaching. New committee rosters are being established and, while those lists are still works in progress, I have accepted an appointment to serve as the Republican lead on the House’s Higher Education Finance and Policy Division. I have served as chairman of the House’s committee on higher education numerous terms, including each of the last two.

Our state has a strong tradition in higher education and I look forward to continuing our efforts to universities provide an environment at our colleges and universities which allows our students to reach their full potential. I’ve always put students first and that’s the approach I will continue to take. I also look forward to serving in this role as the University of Minnesota brings a new president on board. That will be an interesting new dynamic and I hope to develop a strong working relationship with the new leader at the U of M.

I will be back with more news from St. Paul soon. Until then, have a happy and safe holiday season and I hope you are enjoying this relatively warm winter weather.

Sincerely,

Bud
