LOCALLY DRIVEN BILLS STILL PROGRESSING

Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Neighbors- The Legislature will be taking a brief break to recognize the Easter/Passover holidays this week. Things will really pick up after the break as committees wind down and more floor action takes place. A couple of pieces of legislation I’m working on still are making their way through the process. One bill requires seatbelts in motor coaches used in school-related transportation; it was one year ago the tragic bus accident involving Pelican Rapids students took place and this initiative would help protect our kids as they travel. Another bill I am still working to get passed pertains to legalizing the use of mini trucks on roadways (at minimum, allowing them on county and township roads). North Dakota is one of 11 states which already allow mini trucks. Here’s a link to one Web site with information regarding mini trucks: http://www.japaneseminitrucksonline.com/. I will be presenting a House resolution to the Pelican Rapids boys basketball team soon, honoring the Vikings for their recent state Class 2A championship and undefeated season. The actual resolution is attached as a PDF so you can see the full checklist of accomplishments recognized. The 2009 season was one people in this area won’t soon forget and memories will be passed along the generations. Congratulations to the Vikings and good luck to the 12 seniors who soon will be starting a new chapter in life. Until next time, Bud
