State Rep. Paul Marquart Not Running for Re-election in 2022

Wednesday, January 12, 2022

Minnesota State Rep. Paul Marquart announced today that he will not run in 2022 for re-election.

“A huge thank you to my family, constituents and students who gave me the high honor and privilege to serve my community and state for 35 years,” Marquart said.

Marquart has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for 11 terms since first being elected in 2000 and previously served as Dilworth Mayor for 11 years and the City Council for two years.  Marquart is Chairman of the Taxes Committee and has served as chair of the Education Finance and Property Tax committees.

Marquart, who has been a social studies teacher at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School for 38 years and plans to continue teaching next Fall, said “I have always felt so fortunate to be able to work with our excellent youth as a teacher and with constituents as a legislator to improve our rural communities and the state of Minnesota.”

“At 65, it’s time to try new things and to spend more time with my family and those fun grandchildren,” Marquart said.  He added that without the strong support from his wife, children and family that he would not have been able to serve as a legislator.

Marquart said he is focused on the important work to do during this upcoming legislative session.

Marquart said the most enjoyable part of being a legislator was going door-to-door and meeting and visiting with constituents.  “I truly valued the friendships and conversations I had with a lot of wonderful people in the district.  I will really miss that.”
