Minnesota’s Stay Home order expires May 18, new Stay Safe order takes effect: What it means for you, your family, and your business

Friday, May 15, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

As a result of the sacrifices made by workers, businesses, and families to slow the spread of COVID-19, Minnesota was able to build hospital capacity and prepare for the pandemic’s peak. Now, we are beginning a new phase of our response in which we will safely and gradually re-open our economy while continuing to follow public health guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.

Starting May 18th, retail stores and main street businesses can reopen if they have a social distancing plan and operate at 50 percent capacity, and Minnesotans are welcome to gather with friends and family in groups of 10 or less with safe social distancing practices in place. In addition, Minnesota will soon finalize guidance on how to safely reopen bars, restaurants, barbershops, and salons beginning June 1st.

This new phase of Minnesota’s response to COVID-19 brings with it badly needed economic relief for individuals who have lost their jobs and businesses that have closed. We know that the fight against this virus is not over, and its impact on our communities will be long lasting.

It’s up to all of us to continue showing that we care for our nurses, doctors, first responders, and vulnerable Minnesotans by taking personal responsibility to socially distance, wear masks, frequently wash our hands, and stay close to home.

Please contact my office if I can be of assistance in navigating programs that help small businesses, unemployed workers, and families impacted by COVID-19. Send an email to rep.paul.marquart@house.mn or leave me a voicemail by calling 1-800-551-5520. The Legislature continues to work in partnership with Governor Walz and his administration to re-open Minnesota in a way that is safe and doesn’t lead to loss of life. The 2020 session adjourns in just a few days on May 18th, 2020.

Thank you for everything you are doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The best place to get fast and accurate information about the pandemic is www.mn.gov/covid19

Sincerely,

Paul Marquart
