Dear Neighbors, I hope you’re doing well amid the challenges our communities are facing. It’s now been over two weeks since George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis Police Officers. Last week, fellow members of the legislature’s People of Color and Indigenous Caucus and I rolled-out our legislative response (you can watch video of the press conference we held at the Hallie Q. Brown Center here). On Saturday, I will chair a public hearing of the House Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Division to discuss this legislation, the goals of which are the following:
Tonight at 5:30 p.m., Sen. Sandy Pappas, Saint Paul City Councilmember Rebecca Noecker and I will host a Virtual Town Hall Meeting to discuss police accountability, criminal justice reform, the 2020 legislative session and Minnesota’s path forward with community members. You can follow along with the meeting on Sen. Pappas’s Facebook page, and if you’d like to submit a question, email it to ward2@ci.stpaul.mn.us. I hope you can join us. If you can’t join us, I welcome your feedback and hope you’ll share your input and ideas with me. Feel free to email me at rep.carlos.mariani@house.mn or call me at 651-296-9714. It’s an honor to represent you. Sincerely, Carlos Mariani |
