SAINT PAUL, MN – Right now, the Minnesota House is debating the Republicans’ Omnibus Jobs and Energy bill. The bill cuts job creation efforts, consumer protections, racial & economic disparities efforts, workforce housing, and rolls back Minnesota’s renewable energy progress.
Rep. Tim Mahoney (Saint Paul), the DFL-Jobs Lead, released the following statement:
“Make no mistake, the Republicans may claim their jobs and energy bill is creating jobs and spurring clean energy, but in the age of Trump we can’t let alternative facts like that slide. It’s a blatant falsehood to say this bill does anything but cut initiatives that fund job creation, end racial disparities, and rollback renewable energy standards.
“This bill is the epitome of Minnesota Republicans embracing Trump. They’re closing trade offices in an anti-trade move that will hurt businesses and farmers; they’re removing clean energy mandates for electricity producers and removing made in Minnesota solar; they’re taking away consumer protections; and finally they’re rolling back funding that was used to help end racial economic disparities. Republicans haven’t just jumped on the Trump train for a ride, with this bill they showed that they’ve bought a four year pass.
“The worst part of all this is that they could do the right thing. They could invest in the things that make Minnesota great, like education and job creation, but instead they’ve chosen to prioritize the ultra-rich and big corporations by giving them hundreds of millions in tax cuts instead.”
