As the legislature adjourned Monday, DFL and GOP leaders joined with Governor Walz to announce an outline for the two-year budget. The bipartisan agreement establishes a framework and roadmap for final negotiations to complete the legislative session. Working groups will begin meeting soon and the House and Senate negotiators will continue our attempt at a bipartisan agreement on Housing.
The last fourteen months have been difficult for everyone, but Minnesotans have experienced the hardship unequally. Our budget aims to help those most impacted by COVID-19 and prioritizes students, families, workers, and small businesses.

Summer Learning
We learned this week Governor Walz will utilize and allocate $75 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund summer learning opportunities for our students to catch up academically and emotionally. This important investment will help Minnesota students and families recover from the toll taken on them during the pandemic.
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
Although the statewide face covering requirement has changed, it is still recommended those who are not vaccinated continue to adhere to local rules and guidance. The best way to protect everyone is to get a vaccine. The Minnesota Department of Health reports more than 2.7 million Minnesotans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Check out Minnesota’s COVID-19 mn.gov/vaccineconnector, call 833-431-2053 or ask your health care provider to help you find a vaccine.
