Neighbors and Friends,

Thank you to everyone who viewed and participated in the SD66 virtual town hall on Tuesday night (video starts close to 7:00). We had a tremendous number of participants offer comments and engage. I am very appreciative of your continued interest in the issues that impact all of us, and specifically, our black and brown neighbors. Over the years we have worked to correct disparities, but the urgency has ramped up and we must enact meaningful and impactful legislation, such as that proposed by our People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) caucus.

We discussed Attorney General Keith Ellison’s working group recommendations to reduce police-involved deadly force encounters. I hope you have time to read these thoughtful and effective proposals.

will not stop working for racial justice until everyone is treated equally under the law.

Public Safety Division holds day-long hearing

The series of legislation is contained in three distinct packages: Reforming Accountability, Reclaiming Community Oversight, and Reimagining Public Safety. Measures to be discussed include reforms to use of force, prosecutorial and investigatory reform, changes to incident review procedures, training related to mental health and autism, and more. If you did not see the hearing live, the video will be available from House Public Information Services YouTube channel.
