Stay at Home Extended, Help for First Responders, Housing Grants Available

Governor Walz has extended the Stay at Home order until May 4. There is evidence that this strategy is working. I’d like to thank all of you for doing your part to stay home and stay safe.

Help for first responders

The legislature met this week, following  the Minnesota Department of Health social distancing guidelines, to approve workers’ compensation benefits for our first responders sickened by COVID-19. These dedicated workers are here for us every day and this legislation will help them should they be affected by this pandemic. You can read my statement here.

Governor Walz delivers State of the State

Sunday evening, Governor Walz delivered his State of the State address to Minnesota via video from the Governor’s Residence. In his speech, Gov. Walz spoke of the resiliency and optimism of Minnesotans in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here to read my statement.

Disaster Declaration

This week, the president declared a major disaster in the State of Minnesota, granting a request made by Gov. Walz. Minnesota will now be offered federal assistance to help mitigate the pandemic’s impact on public health, unemployment and more.

U.S. Senators Klobuchar and Smith announce COVID-19 housing funds for MN

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith this week announced $47 million in grants will be coming to Minnesota to meet the housing needs of those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the grants, which Congress made available through the CARES Act. The grants are meant to help low-income families and other vulnerable citizens. You can read more here.
