Building and Infrastructure Bill Needs More Work

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Wednesday afternoon, the Minnesota House failed to pass the 2017 bonding bill. The measure, which required 81 votes, fell short for passage.

Rep. Alice Hausman, DFL Lead on Capital Investment, released the following statement:

“The bill before us today has seen more versions than any I can recall. This version came together in Ways and Means and there were some good additions, but it’s not ready. It needs more work, particularly on higher education, CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) to match the federal money and a few other projects requiring general fund money – one that has been waiting for five years.

“Not all the projects included in last year’s bill made it into this bill – and the backlog around the state is building. We have some work to do to craft a regionally balanced, bonding bill for the entire state. Today we vote ‘no’ and look forward to further work with House and Senate Democrats and Republicans and Governor Dayton.”
