The Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota has awarded the prestigious Reuel Harmon Award to Rep. Alice Hausman. The Council has singled out Rep. Hausman for her “exemplary service and outstanding achievements on behalf of Minnesota’s parks and trails.”
“Our beautiful parks and trails are a valued part of Minnesota’s recreational culture,” said Rep. Hausman. “Our parks and trails allow people from all corners of the state to enjoy our vast wilderness, suburban and urban areas in a uniquely Minnesota manner. They are also an important economic engine for many of our communities all over the state. I’m honored to receive this award for my part in preserving and expanding our parks and trails.”
St. Paul native Reuel Harmon (1904-1994) joined his father’s company – Webb Publishing – in 1926, achieved the rank of Major in the U.S. Army during WWII and served on a number of boards. He was involved with the Minnesota Parks and Trails council, the Fort Snelling State Park Association, the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minnesota Zoo, the Carpenter Nature Center and the Dodge Nature Center. Past recipients include Gov. Elmer L. Anderson, Rep. Willard Munger and Sen. David Durenberger.
Rep. Hausman received her award at the 2017 Annual Dinner of the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota on April 5.
