RELEASE: Erickson encourages applications for broadband grants

Thursday, September 25, 2014

St. Paul, MN—Rep. Sondra Erickson, R-Princeton, encourages cities, counties, businesses, non-profits and other eligible applicants to consider applying for a grant of up to $5 million to continue the expansion of Minnesota's broadband infrastructure.

Applications must be received by Tuesday, October 28. The grants are available as a part of a $20 million Border-to-Border Broadband Development Grant Program signed into law in May of this year. Late proposals will not be considered.

"I hope eligible groups, cities, and other organizations will take advantage of this opportunity to help expand much-needed broadband infrastructure in our area," Erickson said. "Broadband Internet access is critically important to help put information at the fingertips of Minnesota families, businesses, and schools. I encourage those interested to think outside the present system," she added, “because new ideas are always needed to fulfill the needs of our area.”

According to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), eligible applicants include "incorporated businesses and partnerships, political subdivisions, Indian tribes, Minnesota non-profits, cooperative associations and limited liability corporations."

Full details and application materials can be found on the DEED website at http://mn.gov/deed/about/contracts/.

Erickson encourages anyone with questions to contact her office by calling 651-296-6746 or by email at rep.sondra.erickson@house.mn.
