Governor Announces Breakthrough in COVID-19 Testing

The Governor, U of M, and Mayo Clinic launched a statewide testing strategy today to test all symptomatic people, isolate confirmed cases, and expand public health surveillance tools. By building capacity to test as many as 20,000 Minnesotans per day, this increased testing and tracing will help improve control of this pandemic and support the safe re-opening of society. Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of the landmark day and we’re celebrating the progress made by those who came before us and are committed to acting on behalf of those who will come after us. 50 years is a reminder that we have inherited the movement to protect public spaces and Earth’s most fragile places from generations before us. As a member of the House Climate Action Caucus, I’m working hard to protect our planet for future generations of Minnesotans.

A few of my colleagues had an opportunity to interview Vice President Walter Mondale to reflect on his experience voting as a U.S. Senator to establish it. Listen to the conversation here.

I had the opportunity today to speak at a virtual rally sponsored by Save the Boundary Waters. Even as this global pandemic continues, we must remember to protect our environmental responsibilities. You can watch the rally that took place with my colleague Representative Kelly Morrison, polar explorer Paul and Sue Schurke, former DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr, and campaign director Becky Rom here.

Mask Drive

Governor Walz recently launched a statewide homemade mask drive to encourage Minnesotans to create homemade masks for donation and highlight the importance of workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., South Minneapolis residents can deliver homemade masks to one of the Minneapolis Fire Department stations. Departments will then deliver the masks to local congregate living facilities for their employees and residents to wear.

Even if you can’t join us next week, please know I’m available to answer any questions you have during these difficult times.

It’s an honor to represent our South Minneapolis neighborhoods in the Minnesota House!

Sincerely,

Jim Davnie
