REP. DAVIDS AUTHORS BILL DESIGNATING NEW VETERANS CEMETERY IN FILLMORE COUNTY

Monday, January 24, 2011
REP. DAVIDS AUTHORS BILL DESIGNATING NEW VETERANS CEMETERY IN FILMORE COUNTY ST. PAUL – To honor the men and women who have fought for our freedoms, State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) is authoring legislation that would create a new veterans cemetery in Fillmore County. “The Department of Veterans Affairs is planning for three new state veterans’ cemeteries, including one in southeastern Minnesota,” Davids said. “Not only does our region have the land available, it also has a strong history of supporting and honoring those who have put their lives on hold to fight for our country.” The Veterans Affairs department is considering available and donated public lands for the cemetery, and Fillmore County has jumped at the opportunity to create a statewide veterans cemetery within its borders. Davids said he has received resolutions of support from cities as well as the backing of local civic and veterans organizations. Davids is hopeful the Legislature will approve his bill later this year.
