House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher announced last Friday the 2009-10 committees and chairs for the Minnesota House of Representatives, including the reappointment of State Representative Lyndon Carlson as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
“It is a great honor to serve as Chairman of the Finance Committee," said Carlson. “I appreciate the opportunity to work with my colleagues to address the issues most important to the constituents I serve.”
As Chair of the Finance Committee, Carlson will work closely with the chairs of the Finance Divisions to address the state’s budget crises in both the current fiscal year and the next biennium. This will require a close examination of the state budget and reprioritizing spending to ensure the state’s resources are well spent.
“I remain committed to shielding our schools and higher education from cuts that impact the classroom, and protecting our recently enacted health care reform that will improve care and provide long-term cost containment in our health and human services budget,” Carlson said.
The Finance Committee has 13 divisions that address all areas of the budget, including Agriculture, Rural Economies and Veterans Affairs; Capital Investment; Energy, Environment and Natural Resources; Early Childhood; K-12 Education; Higher Education and Workforce Development; Health Care and Human Services; Housing and Public Health; Cultural and Outdoor Resources; Public Safety; State Government and Transportation.
