Dear Neighbors,
I would like to thank the many Minnesotans who came to the Capitol to meet with legislators and attend the rallies this week to end gun violence. We need to pass gun safety legislation that would require universal criminal background checks including sales at gun shows, the elimination of bump stock sales, gun suppressors or silencers, and a ban on military-style assault weapons. In addition, I think we should require child safety locks, and also lift the ban on gun studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If Congress fails to act on these initiatives we could and should continue to move forward at the state level. If enough states take action perhaps the Congress will begin to realize the importance of gun safety and enact legislation.
Sincerely,
Lyndon Carlson
State Representative
