Legislative Update - Revised Budget Forecast

Friday, February 26, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

This morning the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget announced a forecast balance of $900 million for the FY 2016-17 biennium, a reduction from the $1.2 billion forecasted last December. While the February forecast is smaller, it still signals positive trends in Minnesota’s economic outlook.

In the upcoming session, Legislators and the Governor will work to use the surplus on targeted investments in Minnesota’s future. After hearing from the people of our district, I believe we must use this surplus in a balanced way that invests in a brighter future for Minnesota families.

The forecast showed that Minnesota’s economy continues to strengthen, but at a slower rate. Minnesota’s unemployment rate is down to 3.5 percent. My main focus in 2016 will be priorities that expand economic opportunity for middle class families.

The 2016 Legislative Session begins on March 8th, and I encourage you to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic by phone at 651-296-4255 or by email at rep.lyndon.carlson@house.mn .

Sincerely,

Lyndon Carlson

State Representative
