ST. PAUL - State Representative Lyndon Carlson said he was pleased at the Legislature's final passage of the Maple Grove Hospital Bill and today's signing by the Governor. The bill gives North Memorial and Fairview the go ahead to build a 300 bed hospital in Maple Grove. Carlson served on the House & Senate Conference Committee that negotiated the bill's final version. Last year, the House passed a bill allowing North Memorial to build the hospital while the Senate passed a different version. Last fall, Fairview and North Memorial partnered for a new proposal. Carlson said the new partnership made the difference.
"North Memorial has provided quality health care to our community for many years," Carlson said. "The partnership with Fairview allowed us to find a common proposal that both Houses and the Governor could agree on."
The Hospital will be completed by the end of 2009 and offer medical, surgical, obstetrical, gynecological, pediatric, and behavior health services. Carlson said he's glad the long debate on this issue is finally over.
"I 'm very pleased this matter is finally been resolved and those of us in the northwestern suburbs will finally have another state of the art health facility in our own back yard."
