STATE REP. BERNARDY SWORN-IN AS LEGISLATIVE SESSION BEGINS

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – A lifelong member of our community, State Representative Connie Bernardy (DFL - Fridley) was officially sworn in as the District 41A State Representative as the 88th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 8th  at the State Capitol. Rep. Bernardy, first elected in 2001, is beginning her fourth non-consecutive term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

“The State of Minnesota faces many challenges," said Rep. Bernardy. “Minnesotans expect elected officials to work together on growing our economy, creating middle-class jobs and improving education so our children can compete nationally and globally.”

Economic forecasts revealed early last month that lawmakers must tackle a $1.1 billion budget shortfall this year. When the money still owed to schools and inflation is included the shortfall rises to over $3 billion.

“Despite the budget shortfall, I am confident that we can pass a fiscally responsible and balanced budget,” added Rep. Bernardy. “We have an opportunity to make Minnesota an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Much of that work will begin in legislative hearings throughout the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Bernardy will serve as vice chair of the Transportation Finance Committee as well as serve on the Education Finance, Elections and State Government Finance and Veterans Affairs Committees.

“I’m very excited to begin work on these committees and for the opportunity to work hard on the issues that affect the residents of Fridley, New Brighton, Spring Lake Park and our entire state,” said Rep. Bernardy.

Throughout the legislative session, Rep. Bernardy encourages all constituents to contact her directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any legislative issue. Rep. Bernardy can be reached by phone at (651) 296-5510 or by email at rep.connie.bernardy@house.mn.
