Legislative Update- December 11, 2020

Friday, December 11, 2020
Rep. Bernardy

Dear Neighbors,

This week Governor Walz announced Minnesota’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan. The goal is to quickly, equitably, and safely deliver the vaccine to Minnesotans in partnership with the federal government and local communities in every corner of the state. Many vaccines are pending FDA approval; Pfizer's was just approved by an FDA panel late yesterday. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are 95 percent effective. In both cases, two doses will be required. Despite the quick development timeline, the vaccines have had to meet strict safety guidance and rigorous clinical trials.

Across the state, there will be 25 distribution hubs set up to directly receive vaccine deliveries through the national vaccine distribution chain. From there, the vaccine will be distributed further to smaller hospitals and clinics. COVID-19 vaccines and additional supplies will be distributed at no cost to providers registered for COVID-19 vaccination, and vaccines will be provided to people at no cost. Economic Assistance for Minnesotans

We know that the pandemic and measures needed to slow the spread of COVID-19 have created challenges for many Minnesotans, especially our small businesses and working families. House DFLers have been working with Governor Walz to help people make ends meet as we await more aid from the federal government. We recently put forth an economic relief package on November 24 to keep small businesses afloat, support workers struggling to get by, and help families keep food on their tables. Bipartisan negotiations are ongoing and I’m hopeful we can find common ground in time for our next special session on Monday.

We’ll keep working to curb the spread of the virus and help Minnesotans who are struggling. In the meantime, resources are available to help people impacted by COVID-19. You can find information about housing assistance, support for workers, and more here. Please feel free to contact me if you have trouble accessing support or if I can be of assistance.

COVIDaware MN

Governor Walz recently unveiled a new tool to help Minnesotans stay safe and informed as COVID-19 spreads throughout the state. COVIDaware MN is a mobile app that alerts you if you’ve been in proximity to someone who has contracted the virus, even if it’s someone you don’t know. This technology can prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help you protect yourself and others. It’s free, voluntary, and anonymous. You can download the app and learn more here.
