RELEASE: Rep. Connie Bernardy Attends “Women at the Tables of Power” in Washington

Monday, October 16, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Connie Bernardy (DFL-New Brighton) attended a recent national conference, “Women at the Tables of Power,” sponsored by the Women Legislators’ Lobby (WiLL) of Women’s Action for New Directions (WAND), in Washington, DC. She joined women leaders to change national priorities, build a better future, and promote diplomatic solutions for US security. The conference brought together women state legislators and advocates for policy briefings and strategizing for national budget priorities that can create good jobs, enhance educational opportunities, and revitalize the U.S. economy.

Rep. Bernardy and several colleagues had in-depth meetings with District 41A’s Congressional Delegation:  US Rep. Betty McCollum, US Rep. Keith Ellison, US Senator Amy Klobuchar and US Senator Al Franken. They discussed ways to ensure women have seats at the tables of power and give voice to the priorities that will improve our nation and the lives of our constituents. In addition, they discussed restraint in nuclear escalation and threats and encouraged diplomatic solutions for US security. Rep. Bernardy remarked “Gathering women leaders from across the nation who share our community values helps to improve and support the lives of people in our community, nation and world. Joining together we work to ensure prosperity and security for people in our communities. It is critical we promote sound budget priorities and invest in our economy, create good jobs, and protect vital funding on which the people of our district rely for veterans, students, and seniors.”

WiLL President Georgia Senator Nan Orrock said, “Our elected officials in Washington battle endlessly over how to spend our tax dollars, with a huge impact on our states and constituents. We cannot afford to stand on the sidelines for this debate. We must advocate for a budget that grows the economy and protects the essential programs on which our communities rely.”

“Women at the Tables of Power” took place October 1-3 on Capitol Hill.
