Priorities for the Second half of Session

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

At the state legislature, we’ve started the second half of session and it’s now time to start setting priorities. By the time we adjourn on May 18th, a two year budget will have been passed. It’s my hope that we’ll develop legislation that brings our differences together. Here are some of the bills I’ve been bringing people together on from both sides of the isle:

-Child Tax Credits to help working families deal with the high costs of caring for their children.

-Early Voting eliminates waste by making early absentee voting more like regular voting and make the process easier for citizens and it saves money.

-Minnesota Reading Corps has been proven to narrow the achievement gap in our schools.

-College-level coursework in High School expands opportunities for students and I’m working to ensure those credits transfer to college.

Many of these bills have support and co-authors from both parties and I’m hopeful that they will become law. I look for issues that strengthen Minnesota’s tradition of building a strong middle class through education, hard work, and building strong communities. As we put together the budget, I hope we reflect these values in our budget. Please free to contact me by email at rep.connie.bernardy@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-5510.

Thanks for the honor of serving our community,

Connie
