Working Together as a Team for Students and Schools

Friday, February 13, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Spring Lake Park school board meeting with Senator Barb Goodwin, Senator Alice Johnson and Representative Jerry Newton. We work very closely together as a team to help the schools and children in our community. Helping students in the community I grew up in is especially rewarding.

It was helpful to hear the wide array of ideas, concerns, and questions from the school board members including the student representatives. We are already incorporating suggestions and ideas from our meeting into legislation.

I was reminded of how valuable it is to work as a team of elected officials, school board members, students, and teachers – particularly when it comes to improving our schools so they can be amongst the best in the world.

The serious work of putting together a state budget has begun. I am working with my colleagues to expand Reading Corp opportunities for area students. This program achieves extraordinary student results from a researched-based tutoring method. It is an important, cost-effective intervention that is helping our students succeed and close the achievement gap. It is my hope that the entire legislature will continue to work together to strengthen our students, community, and state.

As we work for you at the State Capitol, we need your continued input. As always, I encourage you to contact me. You can schedule a visit at with me at the Capitol, contact me by email rep.connie.bernardy@house.mn or phone 651-296-5510.

Thanks again for the honor of serving you,

Connie Bernardy

State Representative - Fridley, New Brighton, and Spring Lake Park
