Rep. Erin Murphy Praises Governor’s Budget

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Saint Paul – Deputy Minority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- Saint Paul) praised Governor Dayton’s budget plan. Governor Dayton’s budget calls for significant investments in preschool and early education.

“This proposal will change lives. We’re taking actions to close the achievement gap. Education is the Minnesota way to success and this proposal will set up the next generation for a more prosperous future,” said Rep. Murphy.  “This is smart leadership for Minnesota.  By focusing on the next generation we are preparing the workforce for our future.”

Rep. Murphy is the author of HF 46, the universal preschool proposal.  “I’m happy the Governor is supporting this initiative.  This is a proven strategy for young learners. Along with quality childcare and investment in Head Start, parents and families will have reliable, high quality choices for their children.”

“This budget builds on the progress we made for Minnesota over the last two years.  We balanced the budget and Minnesotan’s economy is growing.  As a result, Minnesota can think ahead, beyond the two year budget cycle and invest in young learners.”
